What each column means
- Day % and 5-day %: the change from the previous close, and from the close five trading days ago.
- RSI 14: the 14-day Relative Strength Index with Wilder’s smoothing. Under 30 is often called oversold, over 70 overbought.
- vs MA 50 / MA 200: how far the price is above or below its 50 and 200-day simple moving averages. Above both is a common definition of an uptrend.
- Volume ×: the latest day’s volume divided by the average of the 20 days before it. 1.5× or more is highlighted.
- From 52w high / Above 52w low: the distance from the highest high and lowest low of the last 252 trading days.
Want a narrower list? Each idea has its own screener with more presets: gainers and losers, unusual volume, 52-week highs and lows, RSI, moving-average crossovers, gaps and volatility squeezes.
Frequently asked questions
Is this stock screener free?
Yes. There’s no account, no subscription and no limit on scans. The only thing you need is a free Alpaca market-data key, which takes a couple of minutes to get.
Why do I need an Alpaca key?
US stock prices are licensed data, so they can’t be handed out for free by a website. Alpaca gives anyone a free market-data key that allows 200 requests a minute and returns many stocks per request, which is enough to scan the whole list. Your key is saved only in your browser and is sent only to Alpaca. See how to get a free Alpaca key.
Which stocks does it scan?
About 600 US stocks and ETFs: roughly the S&P 500, popular growth and momentum names, and around 75 of the most traded ETFs. The largest 135 load first; the rest follow automatically a few seconds later.
Is the data real-time?
Alpaca’s free data is 15 minutes behind the market. Daily figures update through the trading day, and the latest candle is the current (unfinished) day while the market is open.
